SWF Director of Program Planning Dr. Brian Weeden participated in a panel discussion on spacepower hosted by the MITRE Corporation on September 18, 2020. The panel was part of a Great Power Competition (GPC) speaker series organized by MITRE and focused how the U.S. should approach developing national spacepower to deal with a more contested space domain. Dr. Weeden was joined on the panel by Dr. Namrata Goswami, an independent strategic analyst, author and consultant; Mr. Todd Harrison, director of the Aerospace Security Project at the Center for Strategy and International Studies (CSIS); Dr. John Klein, author and professor at the George Washington University’s Space Policy Institute; Mr. Frank Rose, senior fellow and co-director of the Security and Strategy team in the foreign policy program from the Brookings Institution; and Dr. Mir Sadat, former policy director of the White House National Security Council. The panel discussed what spacepower is, how it compares with concepts and doctrine for air, land, or sea power; and how to bring together a whole of government approach to bring civil, commercial, and national security capabilities together to enhance U.S. spacepower.
