Victoria Samson attends conference on Self-Defence in Space in Geneva, Switzerland

The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) and SWF hosted "The Principles of Self-Defense in Space: National Perspectives and Critical Issues."  This small, invitation-only meeting held for non-attribution allowed for an open discussion on understanding how the principles of the right to self-defence may be applied to the outer space domain. Laura Delgado López Co-authors Two Articles in the American Astronautical Society's (AAS) Space Times

The first article in the December/January issue captures highlights of a Congressional briefing co-hosted by SWF and the American Astronautical Society (AAS) on November 2014. Another article in the same issue, also co-written by Ms. Delgado López, summarizes the high points of Overcoming Extreme Weather, a virtual panel discussion co-hosted by AAS and the American Meteorological Society, which she also moderated. Victoria Samson publishes book chapter "Changing Priorities for the Indian Military in Space"

In her chapter of Strategic Technologies and Weapons Systems, Ms. Samson enhances her standing as a subject matter expert. Drawing in part from SWF's position as one of the few space policy organizations which has highlighted and discussed the importance of India to international space security issues, this chapter should be of interest to those who have been following the evolution of India's space program from one that once focused primarily on socioeconomic development to one that includes more military capabilities. (http://ukcatalogue.oup.com/product/9780199451623.do)

Michael Simpson and Chris Johnson Participated in McGill Conference on NewSpace Commercialization

SWF was actively represented at the Manfred Lachs International Conference on NewSpace Commercialization and the Law organized  in Montreal, Canada  by McGill’s Institute of Air and Space Law, and held at the headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Christopher Johnson presented a paper co-authored with Dr. Michael Simpson, while Dr. Simpson co-chaired one panel and participated in another. SWF Advisory Committee members Tanja Masson-Zwaan and Mazlan Othman also presented. Conference presentations are available here. SWF Represented at Spring Meetings of IAF and IAA

SWF Executive Director Michael Simpson represented SWF on several committees and working groups during the spring meetings of the International Astronautical Federation and International Academy of Astronautics in Paris, France.  After participating in an IAA working group developing a study of political and legal issues associated to space debris, Dr. Simpson was actively engaged in the work of IAF committees on Space Security, Commercial Spaceflight Safety, and GEOSS. He also participated in meetings of the IAA working group considering the establishment of a consortium to explore governance issues associated with space resource management.

SWF Project Manager Laura Delgado López moderated the Women in Weather Google+ Hangout

This event was co-organized by the American Astronautical Society and the American Meteorological Society to celebrate National Women's History Month. The expert panel featured speakers from government, industry, and broadcasting, and reached an international audience.
