Brian Weeden Discusses the Shut Down of the Space Fence on The Space Show

Thursday, October 24, 2013

SWF Technical Advisor Brian Weeden appeared as a guest on "The Space Show" to discuss his recent article on Air Force Space Command's decision to shut down the Air Force Space Surveillance System (AFSSS), commonly known as the Space Fence.

Brian examined the decision from three vantage points - the technical capabilities of the AFSSS and its contributions to the Space Surveillance Network, Air Force Space Command's budget and the impact of sequestration, and the politics of Air Force Space Command trying to convince the Pentagon that the new S-Band Space Fence it a worthwhile investment.  Brian and the host of the Space Show, Dr. David Livingston, also discussed what this may mean for the U.S. military's SSA mission going forward and space sustainability.
