Latin American Regional Satellite Data Requirements Coordination Meeting

When: Monday, September 5, 2016

to Friday, September 9, 2016

Where: Curaçao

Secure World Foundation supported the Regional Satellite Data Requirements Coordination Group meeting recently held in Curaçao from September 5 through 8. Working in cooperation with the World Meteorological Organization and the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, SWF’s role was to facilitate the presence of a broadly representative team of professionals from several Latin American countries. One objective of the meeting was to use a "train the trainer" format to enhance capacity in using GEONETCast data to improve disaster response and mitigation in the region. Consistent with SWF’s efforts to apply principles of cooperative governance to space and space-based applications, the meeting also sought to define meteorological user needs in the region and to support development of an integrated operational distribution system to meet them.
