Webinar: The Role of Satellites in Disaster Management

Space-based Earth observations have played a critical role in supporting first responders and risk managers by helping assess damages and impacts after disasters occur. Increasingly, these data are also helping better understand and predict disasters, as well as contributing to long-term recovery work.

In partnership with The Space Show, SWF hosted a two-hour webinar on September 22 on the role of satellites in disaster risk monitoring and management (DRRM). During the discussion, which included responding to questions from the audience, experts highlighted satellite-enabled DRMM, the many international resources available to assist in this effort, and considered some of the benefits and challenges facing users in this work.
